This article will give you somework-arounds on how to check spelling in WordPad Spell checking in WordPadAs noted earlier, WordPad has no built-in Spell checker. Hence the most basic way of performing a spellcheck is to go by the old method of proof reading manually with the help of a dictionary. While thismay sound a tedious job, language teachers would support this.Since manual checking is something not all of us would be interested in, Microsoft has finally come upwith a solution to this spell check problem. Since Windows 8, there is an option to include automaticspelling correction and flagging of misspelt words in all applications (this includes WordPad) runningon Windows.
To activate this feature you need to follow the steps illustrated below.Slide to the side of the desktop screen with mouse or touchscreen. Choose the settings icon from the charmsmenu. You can get to the settings directly by typing settings into the search box also.Go to PC settings and then select PC and Devices option from the menu.Under the Typing option, you are provided with two toggles for switching on or off the autocorrect facilityand the highlighting of misspelt word facility. Switch on these toggles and now you can have the squigglylinespointing out the errors in WordPad and all other apps. So an easy trick would be to copy allthecontents of the WordPad document into MS Word or similar word processors like AbiWord or Open office Writerandthen run the spell check feature to find the mistakes, correct them and then paste the corrected text backtothe WordPad document. This is essentially double work and if people had access to such powerful wordprocessorsin the first place, they may just not choose to use WordPad. Spellcheck.net is a free websitethat performs spelling and grammar checks. You can copy-paste or upload the documents into these sites andclickon a button to get your results instantly.

Hi, I just joined the forum, so excuse me if this is in the wrong section. I've looked for an answer by googling but could not find the solution either. My problem is that since I obtained Windows 10 about two months ago, spell checker has not worked. I went to settings/devices/typing/ and have turned on both the highlight and autocorrect (they were on already but just to make sure), but no yellow highlight ever comes on, not when I'm on firefox, chrome, or when I'm typing on Wordpad, which I often do.I don't know what the problem is. Appreciate your reply. Welcome to TenForums, Reww.I went to Settings/Devices/Typing and that thing just doesn't seem complete to me. There's no way to even tell it that when I type yuo, that it should replace it with you.
Or if I type teh, it should be replaced with the.Do you have an Office program, such as Microsoft Office, Libre Office, etc.? When I misspell a word, it has a red squiggly line underneath it. Since I have MS Office 365 ProPlus, I had always thought the dictionary was activated from it, not from Windows. For what irt is worth (and it may not be much) i did locate a vbs script that I have not yet tested. Supposedly it will work across all applications and has a way to add more corrections to it.
It works like a custom dictionary and wont help much if the 'fix' isn't in it (at least from what i could tell).one of the MOST annoying issues (to me anyway) is that nothing i can find will autocorrect the improper use of the lowercase letter i.(There are plenty of them in this post but none are marked as misspelled.)I do this all the time and Word and Outlook both have it in the built in dictionaries rto correct. But it never works. For what irt is worth (and it may not be much) i did locate a vbs script that I have not yet tested. When I type beter, I get the red squiggly line, so spell check works for that here in the forums. Also, your handle is marked as misspelled. So is autocorrect, which should be auto correct or auto-correct. (There are plenty of them in this post but none are marked as misspelled.) I do this all the time and Word and Outlook both have it in the built in dictionaries rto correct. But it never works. None of the Forum software even offers a correction, ANd a fe others like 'better' Try spelling that with 1 t or any mispelling you like and 'better' is never offered as the correct option.I can't get i to show as a misspelling, no matter whether it's in context or not.
However, if I type i'm, I get an error! However, every spelling error I spotted in your quoted post (except for i) shows up with the red squiggly line beneath it. I have always wondrd as much about the weird things that spellcheck DOES do as much as the time it cant be used at all.TinySpell is the most well known alternative and while it works fairly well even in Notepad, it is not quite as good as spellcheck in Word which can be set to autocrrect as you type.If I had my wishes every possible correction would be done automaticallyand highlighted (for the person typing) to view. If the correction was right, do nothing. If wrong, fix it. By fixing it, the program would learn not to autocorrect that way next time. And the user woudl have the advantage of not having to go to each redlined word since most are typos anyway.

We need a little 'AI' for spellcheck apps.:)There's no way that any one speel cheeck can ever catch all the errors within our writing. Not even Word and it's about the best there is.
